This was a great moment in Nerve's history. I had been inspired by so much of the music that was recorded at Martin Bisi's studio, that bringing my band there to record our third studio record was a dream come true. I remember the sessions really well, how clear everything sounded in our headphones, the massive drum tones in that huge cellar... and what a blast it was to work with one of my heroes engineering. The music had gotten heavier and the studio helped deliver the vibe.

Also, included: "44 Nerve Events to be programmed in inventive sequences." This idea came to me while I was thinking about the difference between the vinyl I'd been used to releasing my music on, and the relatively new CD medium (this was the first studio project Doctor Nerve released on CD). And it occurred to me that random access under program control was a fundamental difference (indeed, it struck me as a far more fundamental difference than the tired audio fidelity debate), and that being able to jump around to various tracks programmatically was something I'd like to take advantage of. So I figured it would be cool to include a bunch of super short CD tracks at the end of the CD. If you put the whole thing in shuffle play, then an average of 3 events would show up between longer tunes. Or the user could program them into little musique concrete sequences. We even included a chromatic scale with each pitch on its own track.
Compositionally, sonically, and performance wise, Beta 14 Ok really pushed us ahead.
